What is Mozilla Thunderbird 102.2.0?
Hello, I had to fix my email account because of this. I set up a new account. I deleted that new account and used my previous email account. Thunderbird is now prompting me for the old account, even though I disabled and removed it. I used the backup method in thunderbird to backup the old account. But now I can’t get into it…
New features and functionality (note: this category lists improvements other than new features):
- The current Google Contacts import will prompt the user if they have multiple accounts with the same email address. If the user confirms this, the import will create contacts for all the Google accounts that match.
- Gmail group message importing has been improved to deal better with large groups.
- Android OS integration and support has been added.
- Improved security to protect against attacks that can manipulate the data recorded on online accounts such as IM and mail.
- Email conversations can now be saved back to the original conversation thread.
- Better password sync support for IMAP accounts. Now users can use different passwords for their email and IMAP accounts.
- New “Edit Link” menu option added when in message view to open the website associated with an email.
- The drag and drop, right-click context menu items were modified to be clearer.
- The “Compose Mail” history is now searchable in the search box.
- The email compose window was modified to use the standard Thunderbird icons.
- The category menu in the client has been modified.
- Address entry now automatically fills in search terms (for searches in the search box, or when copying an address from a website)
- The default folder used for saving email messages, drafts and more has been changed to correspond more closely with the current default folder type (i.e. the user’s default folder in the Windows desktop/tray)
- Search box searches are more powerful, and will now allow searching of embedded “1” in the subject lines of email messages.
- Mail can now be sent using the libcurl library for sending email for content configured in the libcurl profile

- Message creation inside a group conversation was not working due to changes in the code.
- Closing and opening file history folders was not working.
- User experience enhancements in some situations.

So basically it’s supposed to improve usability of the Thunderbird UI with more context and greater compatibility among windows OSes.
That last point is very interesting, but both the browser and the email client that support RTL are OS-dependent! So from a user-experience standpoint I won’t know if it’s making Thunderbird easier to use or harder until a Windows 7 or Windows 8 RTL user with Thunderbird opens and clicks on a right-to-left attachment on Thunderbird.
In Mozilla’s most recent patch release, Thunderbird 7.0.1, they fixed a security issue that could potentially have allowed someone to spoof an SSL server. They’ve now released an update to Thunderbird 7.0.1 that restores the SSL security bug. The update patch is version 126.96.36.199 that you can install by clicking on the download link.
The following update is a bugfix release version of Thunderbird, only different from the Firefox patch release version because of Mozilla’s use of the version number. See https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird/Version_Control for further details.
A new version of Firefox is again available through the Firefox beta channel. This version contains several important improvements and is the first version of Firefox that is built with security in mind. Once again, this means that you need to be careful when installing updates to your Firefox installation. The most recent Firefox beta builds are not compatible with the Mozilla security manager. Read the Mozilla security advisory at https://www.mozilla.org/security/announce/2018/mfsa2018-34.html for details.

Thunderbird has gained the ability to run on various mobile devices. And now, Thunderbird comes with an Android version. The mobile clients do not need XulRunner, but they do need a separate install of the XUL components.
Thank you for providing more details about your experience. I have been reviewing this issue closely and will update the text here accordingly. Here are a few things I have tried based on your suggestions and what I see in the Thunderbird code:
Permanently store exceptionshas been checked in the Preferences dialog and unchecked. This changes the security dialog to say “No Certificate Exceptions” rather than “No Permanently store this exception”.
- The notifications.js file is now unchanged. If that changes, then I can investigate that branch. (Edit, sorry, that is from 93.0.0, not the current 102.2.0, it is not a branch)
Try importing an existing certificate. When I do this, after clicking the button in preferences, Thunderbird creates a.pfx file and tries to import it, but it fails and returns an error. The error is nearly identical to what I get when I create a new certificate from the Certificate Manager, with the Exception is invalid error.
Followed your instructions to import a new certificate from a.p12 file. This works fine and I can export that certificate and import it into Thunderbird.
Followed your instructions to create a new certificate from a.p12 file. With this method Thunderbird does not prompt for the exception, but instead creates a certificate and I am able to export that certificate and import it into Thunderbird. So, the issue seems to be a race condition. But, the certificate itself appears to be valid. It is signed by the same CA that I am using to sign the server certificates. What puzzles me is that this certificate appears to be valid, but when Thunderbird tries to import it, it fails.
Followed your instructions to create a new certificate from a.cer file. This also worked fine. So, the issue seems to be with how the CA certificate is used in Thunderbird. I haven’t been able to investigate the code for this, yet.
