When it comes to performance, one can see right away that the CPU’s thread count is important. The limiting factor for the 5950X is not on the GPU (as with NVIDIA’s RTX cards) but on the memory bandwidth. As with all Ryzen CPUs, this is not a true reason for PC platform owners to be displeased with this processor, it’s more that we are forced to think of it as being slightly lower performance than it would otherwise be. So, for other applications that need a high-end CPU, there is a better choice than the 5950X.
Right now the best GPU for AMD users is the RTX 3080 (overall score of 90.57). In single-GPU cards, it is about equal to the Titan RTX (93.11), and there isn’t an RTX 3090 release quite yet, so it is only a slight upgrade over the RTX 3080.
The GTX 1060 6GB shows a 20% performance improvement over the 5950X, and the GTX 1060 with the GDDR6 configuration gets a 15% performance increase, but the biggest standout on this side is the RTX 2080. It clocks in at 9% better than the 5950X (as does the NVIDIA Titan XP), which overall is a huge step up from the 5950X. All of this is within the range that was predicted, making this the ideal system to use for rendering dense cloud scenes with Autodesk Remake. The GTX 1060 is only a step below it, though, so it can handle a lot of the workload.
We didn’t do full memory tests for the GPUs in the older models. However, we did check for if the new “Adrenalin” version of the RTX cards had any differences. It did not. However, even with the original release of RTX cards, there weren’t really any notable performance differences. The graphical settings were also all the same, so there should not be any significant difference based on the Adrenalin version.
